Thailand is fast becoming one of the most popular places to go to get low cost plastic surgery for things such as breast implants, a nose job, or for other things like a tummy tuck or liposuction.
The reality is that the country is making quite a name for itself in the plastic surgery industry, and possibly with very good reason. The country is well known for offering cosmetic surgery at remarkable prices. In fact, you will see advertisements around the internet and in magazines as well, for plastic surgery in Thailand, for as much as fifty percent off the cost of what you may pay in the United States for the same procedure.
In fact, plastic surgery holidays in Thailand are now being touted as one of the most popular ways to visit the country. One such advertisement states “enjoy affordable cosmetic surgery combined with one of the most amazing exotic holiday locations in the world.” While this all sounds quite delightful, as the saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Plastic surgery vacations in Thailand are being reviewed as the next best thing to peanut butter and pockets, by those who are selling them, but what’s behind the scenes? How safe is it to travel to another country and what is the cost to you? Does your “plastic surgery vacation” sound like it might just be the answer to your dreams, or the beginning of a nightmare?
The reality is that depending on who you ask, it could be either, or both, and the bottom line is that accountability may not be there for you, if and when you need it.
How safe is it to go to another country for plastic surgery? In the United States alone more than 5000 plastic surgeries a year are botched for one reason or another. They simply don’t achieve the results that the clients wanted, and in fact some can be pure horror stories. The end result is that many clients who simply wanted prettier lips or a smaller nose end up with some results that may take several more surgeries to fix. That’s bad enough, when it happens on your home ground.
What about when a plastic surgery operation wasn’t what you wanted to achieve and it’s been done overseas in Thailand? What kind of recourse do you really have for getting your surgery fixed, or seeing a refund of your money, or an award for damages?
Literally thousands of people, decisions based on those internet and magazine advertisements, are traveling to Thailand to get affordable plastic surgery treatments. The reality is that some can be safe as well as affordable, but many of the clients who are there are not checking out thoroughly, the services that they will be using.
Every surgery has serious risks involved. Because plastic surgery is elective, we often forget that that it carries the same risks as other types of surgery because systemic drugs and anesthesia are involved, which when not properly administered, can have serious risks to your health.
Thailand does have some very sound and very positive medical facilities. Upon research there are those which are well rated and well ranked internationally for plastic surgery. There are also those which take full advantage of the name of the better ones, and set themselves up as knowledgeable, good practices, when the reality is anything but that.
When or if you choose to travel to Thailand to get your plastic surgery at a great price, take the time to do your homework and to really delve into the subject fully. Know what you will be getting and who precisely will be doing the work.
Don’t travel alone. With any overseas or foreign travel comes some risk. That is doubly true when one travels overseas, with a view to having a surgical procedure. There does need to be some safeguards in place to assure that all progresses as it should and that you arrive home safe and sound.
At the end of the day, if your surgery is not a complete success, your recourse may be limited unless you have used a service that provided you with information and referred you to a specific area or physician in Thailand. Multiple services of this type do exist in both the United States as well as the United Kingdom presently, offering referrals to practice clinics in Thailand that are deemed to be safe and effective to travel to, in order to get cheap plastic surgery.
The ability to sue a clinic or a licensed physician in Thailand when you are not a resident of the country is practically non-existent. In addition, to achieve that goal if your surgical intervention is not all that you hoped it would be, you will be required to travel to Thailand and to file suit as well as hire an attorney from that country. Each time there is an appearance required, you will need to be in Thailand again.
For any revisions of your surgery, you will also be required to travel to Thailand to achieve an intervention. This means that your low cost surgery will quite likely end up costing you far more than you ever imagined.
Lastly, in consideration of the fact that your plane ticket alone to Thailand may cost as little as 600 USD or as much as 1000 USD to just get there, this will certainly add a fairly concrete amount to what you pay and make the savings a great deal less. It seems like common sense to have your surgery done where you are assured of safe surgery, of solid medical guidelines being followed and having recourse to achieve reparation if the surgical intervention is not satisfactory.
